Sandra Suubi is Shs100m richer, after beating singer Toniks and three others in the Airtel Trace Music Star talent search competition.

Suubi belted out Kate Perry’s July 4th to a live audience in the finale at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Valentine’s Day. She was aptly dressed in red, a colour for the lover’s day and also the brand colour of the sponsors Airtel.

Suubi will now represent Uganda in the African finale in to take place on 28th March in Nairobi Kenya. The winner will have a chance of spending two weeks in Atlanta, under the mentorship of Senegalese born international superstar Akon and also record a music video on top of a record deal with Universal music.

Suubi, a graduate of Industrial and Fine Art from Makerere University is also a member of the all-girl trio Xabu that does live band performances.

The other finalists were Dan Flavour, Richard Kiggundu and Brenda Nantongo.

The judges of the Ugandan competition were James Onene aka Fatboy of Sanyu FM, Angella Katatumba and music producer Washington.

Jose Chameleone, Maurice Kirya, Katatumba and Washington also performed, adding colour to the event.
