katatumba Angella[dropcap]S[/dropcap]inger Angella Katatumba, has written a letter of intention to sue Kampala Sun, a tabloid published by Vision Group, demanding Shs200m in damages over a series of stories published about her that “tarnished her reputation and led to loss of business.”

The letter was drawn by her lawyers Mulindwa & Athiang Advocates  and they also demand Shs20m as legal fees.

Last week, The Kampala Sun published stories titled: “Jack Pemba plays Angella Katatumba, Desire Luzinda” and How Low Angella Katatumba has sunk.” At the end of January, they also published a story titled “Angella Katatumba fails to pay for clothes.”

“You depicted our client as a low class person, dishonest, fraudster and does not meet her financial obligations,” the lawyers wrote to the Kampala Sun about the Janaury article.

“In the second article you depicted our client as a person of low moral fiber, unfaithful, cheap, promiscuous, gold digger and a failed person in life.”

The lawyers noted Angella’s concern that they published false stories that the public believes are true.

Her lawyers state that Katatumba who is the Managing Director of Hotel Diplomat that was founded by her father Bonney Katatumba and is also a British Council Climate Change Ambassador, has lost business as a result of the damaging false articles as people are shunning her and that she is at risk of losing endorsement deals from corporate entities.

“I seldom respond to tabloids. After all, words like “allegedly” exonerate journalists behind these stories and personally, I’ve never gone after any media house because, I understand that it’s one of many ways for certain journalists and media houses in this town to make their money. With that said, the most recent Kampala Sun stories published about me involve larger issues. The Kampala Sun journalist, Solomon Muleyi, called me prior to publishing these stories and I gave him DETAILED accounts of the truth. To my surprise and shock, this “journalist” decided to write distorted versions of the stories that have hurt my reputation and businesses in more ways than one. The irresponsible and malicious tone that stated obvious lies as facts are at the very least negligent and more importantly illegal. Luckily we live in a world where illegal acts are punishable by law,” Katatumba posted on her Facebook page.

She also wants a front page apology from the Kampala Sun on top of the Shs200m.

Below is the letter from the lawyers.
