oburu4There are men, and then there are men. Patrick Oburu, a 61-year-old resident of Buswikira village in Mayuge district lies in the rare category of men.

He has a dozen wives and he has fathered 61 children among them. That is one child for every year that he has lived on earth!!!

“My first two wives are sisters and I married them on the same day in 1968. I also got the others in pairs,” he told NTV news.

What is odd about Oburu is that he lives in the same house with his wives.

Oburu says that he was the only child his parents gave birth two, so the weight to increase the population of his clan was on his shoulders.

“I have 12 rooms in my house and each house has a woman,” he bragged.

“We get along well and in case there are any problems, we sit on the same table and resolve them,” the wives say.

Most of his children are in school, with six of them at university, but Oburu says it has not been easy because he is jobless and he is appealing to government for help “(Tusaba gavumenti etuyambe).” His women spend the day tilling the land in the gardens, to fend for the children.

20 of his daughters are now married and he also has a number of adult sons. He doesn’t know the number of his grandchildren.
