British High Commissioner to Uganda, Alison Blackburne addresses guests, flanked by Heineken Uganda Sales Manager, Nathan Akandwanaho.

The new Bond Movie, Spectre, premiered at Cinema Magic, Acacia Mall on Thursday.

Bond is Britain’s biggest movie franchise and little wonder the guest of honour was British High Commissioner to Uganda, Alison Blackburne.

Bond movies are known for action sequences, breathtaking stunts, gadgets, Aston Martin whips, bond girls and of course agent 007’s favourite drink, a Martini. Since 1997, Heineken has also partnered with the Bond movies franchise and Heineken Uganda sponsored the Kampala premiere.

“The Bond man and Heineken signify similar kinds of things, in terms of being witty, being confident and being aspirational, so there’s a fantastic tie-in with Heineken and James Bond,’’ says Heineken Uganda Country Sales Manager, Nathan Akandwanaho.

The cast and crew of the James Bond movie officially launched the film at the Royal Film in London on 26th October 2015.  The Ugandan premiere was a day earlier than the movie’s release date in the US.

Guests at the Kampala premiere suited up for the black tie event. Both cinemas were booked off the premiere.

Movie synopsis

A cryptic message from the past leads James Bond (Daniel Craig) to Mexico City and Rome, where he meets the beautiful widow (Monica Bellucci) of an infamous criminal. After infiltrating a secret meeting, 007 uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation SPECTRE. Needing the help of the daughter of an old nemesis, he embarks on a mission to find her. As Bond ventures toward the heart of SPECTRE, he discovers a chilling connection between himself and the enemy (Christoph Waltz) he seeks.

The movie stars Daniel Craig, who could be in his last Bond role, Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci, Léa Seydoux and Naomie Harris among others. It runs for 2.30 hours and it is currently showing at all major cinemas in town.
