Eritrea has reportedly ordered men to marry at least two wives due to an acute shortage of men, or face arrest.

According to a statement purportedly issued by the Eritrean government, many men lost their lives in the war against Ethiopia in the late 90s.

The story that is trending on social media has caused a lot of excitement, with mostly Kenyan men wanting to take on Eritrean citizenship as Eritrea is blessed with some of the most beautiful women on the continent.

The statement was allegedly issued in Arabic, translated as follows:

“Based on the law of God in polygamy, and given the circumstances in which the country is experiencing in terms of men shortage, the Eritrean department of Religious Affairs has decided on the following.”

First that every man shall marry at least two women and the man who refuses to do so shall be subjected to life imprisonment with hard labour.

“The woman who tries to prevent her husband from marrying another wife shall be punished to life imprisonment.”

We cannot verify the authenticity of the document but some Ugandan men are already asking us for directions to the Eritrean embassy.
