Former Intelligence boss Gen. David Sejusa has this Tuesday been remanded to Luzira prison by the General Court Martial that sat this morning in Makindye.

Sejusa, an outspoken critic of President Museveni will have to remain in the coolers until February 9th when he appears in court to answer several charges against him including participating in partisan politics yet he is a serving member of UPDF, insurbodination and absence without leave.

Sejusa denied all the charges brought against him in the court martial chaired by Maj Gen. Levi Karuhanga.

The 61-year-old general has been very vocal in supporting Presidential aspirant Kiiza Besigye, going on record to say that Besigye won the 2006 election and it was rigged in favour of President Museveni. He has called for creation of vote protection mechanism to prevent rigging in the February 18th election.

In the charge of absence without leave, it should be noted that Sejusa was a representative of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) in Parliament and was given permission of absence for three weeks, in April 2013, but upon expiry, he did not return.

By this time, Sejusa was in self-imposed exile in the UK after he penned a letter alleging that there was a plot to assassinate top government officials opposed to the “Muhoozi project.” The so-called project which President Museveni has since denied claimed that first son Muhoozi-Kainerugaba, the commander of the Special Forces Command was being groomed to take over from his father.

In the court martial session, Sejusa’s team of lawyers that included  Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi, Yusuf Kasirivu, Yusuf Nsibambi, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, David Mushabe and Mike Mabikke contested the charge saying their client cannot be tried on service offences yet he has a pending case in the High Court- Civil Division on whether he is still a serving army officer or not.
