Lord Mayor-elect Elias Lukwago won’t be able to swear into office on Wednesday, as it had earlier been scheduled to happen.

It is all courtesy of IGP Kale Kayihura writing to KCCA Executive Director Jeniffer Musisi, asking her to cancel the swearing-in of the Lord Mayor and KCCA Councillors, which KCCA had scheduled for Wednesday (after tomorrow).

Speaking to journalists in Kampala today (Monday) morning, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that the IGP’s request to KCCA was because of the visits of the South Korean and Turkish presidents, let alone the Martyrs Day celebrations which come right on the heels of the two presidents’ visit, on Friday.

“The police will be preoccupied, with most of our men securing the VIPs, during the presidents’ visits and the Martyrs’ Day celebrations. Therefore they will not be able to effectively secure the swearing-in function because they would be over stretched,” Enanga said.

Enanga however explained that the swearing-in of the Lord mayor and Councillors hasn’t been totally scrapped, rather only postponed to next week after the visit of the two presidents and the martyrs’ day celebrations are all over.
