One unidentified woman died earlier today during the Uganda Martyrs Celebrations at Namugongo, and several others were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, some in critical condition. The woman who died was yet to be identified by press time as she didn’t have any documents and seemed to have travelled to Namugongo alone, but she was estimated to have been in her fifities.

The  director of Uganda Police Fire and Rescue Department, Mr Joseph Mugisha said the old woman who died was suspected to have gotten an attack which made her faint, making her to be rushed to Kiruddu Hospital where she died on arrival. He further said it was suspected she died of high blood pressure, before adding that over 100 people had been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment with some in critical condition.

Among the conditions that brought problems for the several people rushed to hospital, Mugisha pointed out among others diabetes, headaches, stomachaches, muscle problems and fatigue.

Kiira police division DPC John Baptist Sserunjogi also revealed that they had made several arrests (especially among the youth) for different crimes, including pick-pocketing ,theft, assault and being disorderly during the celebrations. He said all the arrested were still being detained at kiira police headquarters.
