Opposition leader Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has repeated his claims that he won the February 18 Presidential elections.
Besigye who has spent the past couple of months in Luzira prison over treason charges was released on bail yesterday and he addressed the press at FDC headquarters in Najjanakumbi this Wednesday morning.

“I have no doubt in my mind that M7 didn’t win the election. We believe that we have the mandate of the people of Uganda, the people that are now oppressed and terrorized,” he said.
“I am going to discuss with my colleagues how we advance the interests of our people in the obtaining environment. Our people will be accordingly advised of what needs to be done,” Besigye said.
The FDC stalwart also promised to continue his defiance campaign, that was outlawed by court.
“I will continue to be defiant. This is a matter that is before Justice (Steven) Kavuma where government wants to create an impression that defiance is illegal. There is nothing illegal about defiance. How could our prayers be illegal? Just to meet and pray to God, you say that is illegal?” Besigye wondered.

On police brutality towards his supporters
Besigye’s supporters who escorted him from Luzira to his Kasangati home yesterday and those who escorted him from Nakawa Court to the FDC headquarters had to brave cane wielding policemen who flogged them in a bid to disperse them.
“Those are criminals masquerading under the Uganda Police Force. The real criminals in police unfortunately make policy and execute it, but the greatest majority of our policemen are very unhappy about what’s going on,” he said.
He praised himself for having won the election in most police and army barracks.
“The greatest majority of officers in UPDF cannot support what’s going on. We won convincingly in Police and the army,” he said.
“We have captive institutions, who voted against government being forced to carry out orders of a few rogue commanders,” he said.
