The organisers of the August 28 Centenary Bank-sponsored Cancer Run expect to raise shs500 million to equip the Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital with a Linear Accelerator.

The linear Accelerator is a cancer treatment machine that offers a safer alternative where cancerous cells are destroyed without affecting the surrounding tissue.

“Cancer is a disease that touches us all and seeing the need to have this Linear Accelerator machine in place in a short while, we are looking at raising at least shs500 million from the fifth edition of the Rotary Cancer Run due next month,” said Rotarian Fred Masade, one of the organisers of the Run.

“We would like to call upon the individuals, groups and companies to come and register for the Run at all Centenary Bank branches,” he added.

Centenary Bank has been among the supporters of the Rotary clubs cancer activities and initiatives for over six years now and this year they are sponsoring the activities to a tune of Shs110 million.

The Chief Runner is expected to be Omulangira David Wasajja Kintu. Participants will take part in the 5km, 10km and 21km races. Similar runs will take place in Arua, Mbarara, Masaka, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Gulu, Bushenyi,  and Jinja.
