KABUSHENGA

Vision Group boss Robert Kabushenga is one of the happiest people. Staff at the Industrial area based media conglomerate say the boss has an ear to ear grin, they can’t explain. Well, it turns out Kabushenga has been on the edge after it was rumoured that Simon Kaheru had been lined up to take over his job but he is relieved after Kaheru was named UBC Board Chairman.

Rumours started making rounds sometime last year that Kabushenga was seen by government insiders as Amama Mbabazi leaning and they shopped around for a replacement that they had found in Kaheru. Kabushenga bent over backwards to show his allegiance to the regime hence consolidating his post.

Kaheru used to work with New Vision before branching out into private business with his SMS Media company. He also runs a PR house Media Analyst. The ardent blogger also served a stint as the Press Secretary in the Vice President’s office at the time Prof. Gilbert Bukenya held the portfolio.

Kaheru was very active on social media during President Yoweri Museveni’s recent campaigns and he was on the trail in all corners of the country updating cyber citizens on what the President was up to and also drumming up support for the man in a hat. It was clear his enthusiasm couldn’t go without reward and it is a thing that worried Kabushenga because had been linked to the Vision Group top job.

Now Kabushenga can relax as Kaheru has been granted an “honorary” position at UBC as the Board Chairman.

Kabushenga has steered Vision Group to its current position, consolidating the company in print and broadcast. His biggest contribution was using the money got from listing the company on the Stock Exchange to transform Vision Group from the newspaper business that the previous boss William Pike left it, to a multimedia company with the popular Bukedde TV, TV West and Urban TV on top of Bukedde FM, Radio West and XFM. He also revived Kampala Sun a project that failed under Pike, adding it to the newspaper stable of New Vision, Bukedde, Orumuri, Etop and Rupiny.
