Government sponsored students at the School of Science and Techonology at Mbarara University have gone on strike over delayed allowances.

The University’s guild president Charles Obore has spearheaded the strike and they have surrounded the office of the Vice Chancellor claiming their payments.

Government is supposed to provide feeding and housing allowance to every student admitted on government sponsorship.

Students are angry that they are being fed on poor quality posho and beans like high school students.

This strike has jeopardised lectures. Students also threatened to board buses up to Parliament with intensions of meeting Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to forward their issues.

This has come at a time when non-teaching staff have just agreed to get back to duty after staging a two-weeks’ strike in demand for their unpaid salaries.
