With just two weeks to the 9th Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari, we have received another development. Part of this year’s proceeds from the annual concert will go to the Rotary Cancer Center at Nsambya Hospital.

According to an official from the Nsambya based centre, “the Rotary Cancer Programme, money will go towards buying a linear accelerator, a really modern cancer treatment machine.”

We have also gathered that some of the proceeds will be donated to the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA); “The UCA will use the money to run their league and other programmes,” a source told us.

This year’s Jazz Safari event will feature legendary singer Maxi Priest as well as saxophonist Jackiem Joyner and trumpeter Lin Rountree. Also for the first time, the organisers have introduced a new live session dubbed Afro Soul and Rhumba Classics that will feature select legendary and youthful Ugandan artistes.

Jazz Safari tickets are on sale at Shs130,000 and Shs250,000 for ordinary and VIP seating respectively. There are also tables for 10 in specialised chill out zones with supplementary drinks, going for Shs2.5m.

“For a cancer treatment and the support of our sports, this sounds like a cheap bargain,” Tshaka Mayanja, the concert chief organiser told us.
