Museveni appoints Justice Byabakama to replace Kiggundu as EC Chairman

ec2President Museveni has nominated the new members of the Electoral Commission. The six –member team is headed by Court of appeal judge Simon Byabakama as the chairperson.




The other members include, Hajjati Aisha Lubega as deputy chairperson, Mr. Peter Emorut, Mr. Stephen Tashobya, Prof George Piwang and Mr. Mustapha Ssebagala as members.

The team replaces Eng. Badru Kiggundu whose 14 year tenure ended on Thursday after overseeing three general elections. All Kiggundu’s presidential elections were won by President Museveni and contested in court for not being free and fair.  

The president is mandated by article 60 (1) of the constitution to appoint members of the Electoral Commission and their names have been sent to Parliament for consideration and approval.
