The demise of WBS TV brought some new opportunities. After months in receivership, Econet Group, a conglomerate owned by our very own columnist and tycoon Strive Masiyiwa, took over WBS TV.

Econet has since launched their Kwese Free Sports channel. Kwese’s entry means a lot for the TV and sports sector. Besides creating employment opportunities, the channel, with the kind of investment and exposure, promises a huge boost to the sports fraternity.

Herbert Odankie

In terms of employment, Kwese has already courted many sports pundits and top producers who are currently undergoing training. But earlier this week, we received news that Kwese TV had appointed former Zuku TV country manager for sales and marketing- Herbert Odankie Mucunguzi as the station’s first CEO!

Odankie, who was once at NTV Uganda, is a renowned big-time sports fanatic and has made quite a mark as a great marketer. We have heard that Odankie beat more than four other marketing honchos to the job. Join us in congratulating Odankie!
