Before the “a pig is pig” dust settles, we can’t help but crush on the iron lady who took on Parliament and brought the house down with just a microphone.

Ingrid Turinawe, FDC’s mobilisation secretary, is a lady whose political journey has been anything but a quiet one. Yesterday, during her EALA campaign speech, Ingrid was met with one of the rowdiest MP crowd Uganda has ever witnessed. The hounourables went gaga!

The nonsense Ingrid stood her ground and gave her speech above all the racketing that could only be compared to a high school’s. After she was done, she took her deafening carriage to another level by branding herself the now-gone viral “pig is pig” meme.

Calling Ingrid a lioness is incorrect, the leader of the pack who has battled with many a lion every step of her political journey. She was born in Kanungu District in a small village called Kashojwa.

The iron lady, who has been in politics for over 17 years, is a mother of three girls and two boys although she looks like a mother of one. Apart from being a political lion, Ingrid is also a businesswoman and a human rights especially women’s rights activist.

Ingrid’s leadership skills did not jump out from thin air, while growing up she would always lead in prayers, church choir and give speeches.  She was also a leader throughout her school days.

After marriage, Ingrid contested for women councils of her home village up to the Sub County position. At district level, she contested for deputy Speaker and then Speaker.

While as the District Speaker, Ingrid met Dr Col Kizza Besigye and plans to get fully active in the opposition party were immediately hatched. Her political journey has since never found a quiet time and can only go further.

 We celebrate you Ingrid Turinawe.
