About four months ago, Unique scooped “song writer of the year” in the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) that was hosted in Lagos Nigeria.

The soft voiced singer’s dream of finally having the trophy under his roof came true. He stated the organisers do not recommend winners to travel with them due to various reasons.

“You cannot move with such a valuable asset and cross borders. If they find you with it, they either tax it or risk arrest for attempted smuggling”,  Unique explained.

The trophy is such a beautiful piece.  It has a thick wooden base with a slanted gold plated drum and then a microphone rising above the drum. It weighs 3kg and has 23.9Karat of plated gold. The Oscars and Grammys, the most prestigious awards  is 24 Karat.

Winning awards worldwide have been known to boost the value of an artiste for example Lupita and closer to home, Eddy Kenzo. Unique claims the trophy could be worth Shs187m.

“This trophy is worth Shs187m. But its real value can also depend on the world market price of gold”, Unique stated.

Fellow singers Eddy Kenzo and Cindy Sanyu won it too.  Radio and Weasel were the first to get the AFRIMA in 2014 followed by Jose Chameleone in 2015.
