Uganda is largely dependent on agriculture and our president is not afraid to show it. The President has a profound love for agriculture and loves to show it off at any given occasion. He is a firm believer in the potential of commercial  agriculture as a tool to uplift household incomes.

The last time we saw him on a bicycle fetching water to irrigate some crops. However, the latest from him comes with big toys! Tractors! A perfect symbol of commercial agriculture that the regime has been preaching about and promoting through the NAADS programme.

He recently launched the distribution of tractors to farmers through Operation Wealth programme in Mbarara.

“I have launched a pasture improvement project under the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Agriculture Research Organization (NARO).I also used the same occasion in Mbarara to distribute tractors to farmers under the Operation Wealth Creation programme as we move towards mechanising agriculture. This particular programme will later be rolled out to other parts of the country. There will be a cost-sharing element with farmers in running these tractors”, read the Facebook post.

He also launched a pasture programme improvement.

“I am glad that we are now moving towards scientific methods like planting pasture and irrigation. We have previously relied on naturally occurring resources like water and grass for grazing”, he stated.
