Jacob Kiplimo made history yesterday afternoon. I guess you all know the16 year old bagged Uganda’s first gold medal in the junior men’s 8km during the IAAF World Cross Country Championship. If you did not know, I can’t blame you either.

The IAAF was one of the events whose publicity was done at the level of a school sports day. However, that did not steal the excitement when Kiplimo made it to the finishing point. As he made the victory lap, hundreds of Ugandans buzzed with unbridled joy.

For a teenager who might have not received flowers for Valentine’s day or glucose powder before the race, Kiplimo took on his dreams and make it a reality.

NTV’s Sheila Nduhukire was the first to give him a rose flower. That’s how sweet success is. Failure is an orphan. I tell you. She became a fan and a passionate one at that. The flower was reality of his new life. He is getting all the love and attention.

Then another woman could not hide her excitement. She hugged him as they had their moment. She could not risk to be out done by stranger Sheila Nduhukire.

Finally, the huge from First lady and handshake from the president sealed the day! The first lady honoured the victory with a standing ovation!
