Singer Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu has been nominated as an Independent candidate in the Kyadondo East by-election at the Kasangati Saaza Grounds.

“We have started our journey to Parliament today … Ya man,” Bobi Wine said.

Clad in a dark suit, Bobi Wine was accompanied by his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi who was wearing a purple gomesi.

A day before the nominations, Bobi Wine met Forum For Democratic Change officials to map a way forward for the opposition ensuring victory in the area.

The seat fell vacant after FDC candidate Apollo Kantinti was thrown out of Parliament after a petition by NRM’s Sitenda Sebalu.

The FDC meeting was to try to convince Bobi Wine to quit the race in favour of the FDC candidate Kantinti. This Parliament seat is important to FDC because the home of party stalwart Kiiza Besigye is in the area.

Bobi Wine was however reluctant to quit the race, insisting that Kantinti should instead quit as he (Bobi) is a stronger candidate.

“I made it clear that although I am running as an Independent candidate, I have many supporters in FDC since we are all forces of change and subscribe to the same ideology. I also suggested that FDC withdraws its candidate Hon. Apollo Kantinti in favour of my candidature so that we can win with an even bigger margin than we are already doing.  I hope my FDC family joins the winning team. I await their decision,” he said.

FDC have stood their ground and Kantinti is set to be nominated at 2pm.

Bobi Wine is set to address his first rally at Wampeewo grounds anytime from now.
