This is the second part of Matooke Republic’s interview with KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi. We delve into her private life. Even if she was cagey and more interested in telling us about the new traffic lights, we managed to squeeze out some valuable information.

You dress different from the average civil servant?
That’s true. I’m not the average civil servant. I’m a superstar. I’m a high performer, an achiever. I wear what makes me happy and is comfortable. I don’t have a fancy personal stylist …I just wear what I like. And I don’t spend a lot of money on clothes, I buy a lot of cheap clothes, during sales, but I know how to mix and match. I spend some money on shoes and I also like jewellery.

Who is Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old Ugandan-born politician who has become the new mayor of New York City?

You are one of the highest paid people in this country? What do you use all your money for?
I cannot tell you. So that you can go after it? I spend it.

When people look at your salary…
The one I wish I had.

…they begin thinking of what they would spend on… Do you have a fancy car or what?
I don’t have a personal car. I have one government car. I’m not a person who goes to the farm on weekends. It brings me from home to work.

What is the most expensive thing you have ever bought?
I don’t spend a lot.

So you have a lot of money stashed away?
No. I invest my money.

What do you invest in?
I can’t tell you exactly what, but I invest it wisely and carefully.

What do you do on weekends?
I’m not a social person so I stay home.

Do you go farming? That’s how most big peoplein government spend their weekends…
I don’t have a farm.

Speaking of home, everyone seems to be wondering;  Who is Mr Musisi?
He is my husband.

Where is he? We never see him?
He is at his job. I’m not a widow, neither I’m I single. I have a husband, I have kids.

We have seen you win battles over big men like Gen. Sejusa and former Kampala Mayor Nasser Ntege Ssebagala. Who is the boss at home?
Of course my husband is the boss. I’m a very domesticated person. When I get home I’m home. I take off my shoes and go to the kitchen; if the sink is full of things I will wash them. If the house is dirty I will clean up. I cook a lot. I don’t have resident househelps so in the evening I do a lot of cooking with the family. I do ornamental gardening on the weekend, like landscaping and flowers. I don’t like farming so I don’t have a farm. I don’t have animals either.

You recently hit the stage to sing with Limit X at their concert.
I used to sing sometime back and I knew those guys of Limit X so they asked me to challenge them and I said why not? It was fun.

So you love music…
I’m not the concert type of person, but I like dancing, which I can do at home with my children.

Who is your best musician in the country?
I like Juliana. I think that is my all-time favourite.

In the first part of this interview series, Jennifer Musisi puts the record straight on her salary that has been an urban legend in Kampala.
