EXCLUSIVE: KCCA FC change stadium name to Star Times Uganda in Shs1.6b deal

Reigning local double champions Kampala City Council Authority Football Club, on the weekend Saturday, July 1st changed their home name from Phillip Omondi Stadium to Star Times Uganda Stadium. This was reached following a naming rights deal worth Shs1.6 billion with Pay TV company Star times. The club will be getting Shs400m per year until 2021 when the contract is expected to expire.

“The deal was agreed at the beginning of this year and slated to effectively commence on July 1st which was Saturday. Star times paid Shs1.6b for a period of four years”, Clive Kyazze, Club Media officer revealed to us.

He stated that the stadium will retain its original name when the contract expires.

“However, the stadium will again bear its original name (Phillip Omondi) when the contract expires”, he stated.

As part of the deal, Star times also promised to have a channel dedicated to the club. It will broadcast KCCA FC’s live matches, training, interviews and other content related to the club.

KCCA FC now joins Onduparaka FC as one of the few teams with stadium bearing sponsor’s name .
