The Uganda Peoples Defence Force has dismissed reports that its men and another group from the Special Forces Command participated in the arrests of legislators in parliament on Wednesday.

The fracas broke out after the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga suspended 25 members and they refused to leave the House. UPDF spokesperson Brig. Richard Kalemire says that the Sergeant at arms of parliament called in Police when the situation went out of hand.

Speaking to NTV, the Army Spokesman Brigadier Richard Karemire said UPDF is not responsible for law and order at Parliament and was only deployed outside, to keep intruders out.

However, IGP Kale Kayihura stated that it was a joint team of security operatives who threw out the MPs. While addressing the press today in Entebbe, Kasenyi landing site, he revealed that he planned and invited the security operatives.  He applauded the security operatives for “job well done”.
