Opposition figures storm Nagalama Police to demand for release of Dr Besigye and other colleagues

Opposition figures led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Forum for Democracy Change (FDC) officials dressed with red ribbons and caps have stormed Nagalama police Station in demand to release Dr Kizza Besigye and other colleagues who have been detained by police since last week.

Thursday last week while heading to Kabale, Besigye was arrested together with FDC’s Mobilization Secretary Ingrid Turinawe and Party Presidential Candidate Patrick Amuriat as police claimed they had involved them themselves in the bloody incident that happened in Rukungiri Municipality.

“The entire police station is sealed off by troops under the direct command of RPC, Musani. Their continued detention, obviously, amounts to an egregious breach of the 48 hour rule entrenched in the Constitution. When pressed, the RPC and OC CID claimed they were not in the know of the next course of action. That they were not even certain about the charges being preferred against them, whether unlawful assembly or attempted murder.” Explained Lukwago
