Odinga sets date for swearing-in, says they will not be like Besigye ‘who had no plans after taking oath’

Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has finally set the 30th of January, as the date he and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka will swear themselves in as Kenya’s leaders.

The leaders vowed to resist pressure from their supporters to “lift the Bible and be sworn into office casually”, saying they will follow a strict programme drawn by their advisers.

“We now have a plan,” Mr Odinga said. “It is not about carrying the Bible alone. We must have a plan after the Bible. We don’t want to be like Besigye, who took oath without a plan.”

Following the October 26th election that the opposition boycotted, there has been pressure from some of Mr Odinga’s supporters for him to be sworn as President.

However even as the opposition takes this path, the Daily Nation reports that some of Mr Odinga’s co-principals in the National super alliance (NASA) like Wiper democratic movement head Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka are urging Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta, to embrace dialogue to save the country from the effects of the post-election standoff.

“If the situation is intolerable, there must be negotiations. If negotiations cannot work, then Article 1 of the Constitution should be held. We are telling Jubilee to see the mood of the nation.” Kalonzo said.
