Manu Dibango coming to Uganda

As the years go by, Ugandans have continued to express their versatile appreciation of different kinds of music genres, the ever growing being jazz; seeing from the presence of a live band theme night in most hangouts in Kampala today.

Jazz lovers have even more to be excited about with the coming of Paris based Cameroonian saxophonist, Emmanuel N’Djoké Dibango alias Manu Dibnago.

Manu is a song writer, musician and saxophonist best known for his song “Soul Makossa” which inspired Michael Jackson’s  ‘Wanna be startin’ something’ .

He will be performing together with Uganda’s Isaiah Katumwa and South Africa’s Siphokazi at a tribute concert to the fallen father of South African jazz, Hugh Masekela.

The 84 year old is best known for developing a unique music style that fuzes jazz, funk and traditional Cameroonian music. He has over 70 albums which he started recording in 1968 at the age of 35.

According to Isaiah Katumwa, Manu is a legend and Uganda should be proud to host him for the first time ever.

The Hugh Masekela tribute concert is sponsored by Johnnie Walker and will be held at the Kampala Serena Hotel on 30th April, the International jazz day.
