The Guinness National 7s Series returns this weekend after a fortnight’s rest to allow the Rugby Cranes play in the Elgon Cup final game away to Kenya. With a disappointment of a 38-22 loss to the Kenyans, rugby fans will now turn to their favourite local clubs for relief as Mbarara plays host to the event for its first time- at Mbarara University.

The university rugby team will get its first feel of the competition which is now in its fourth circuit, after the third round that was hosted by Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo. In that circuit, the surprise outfit was the Uganda7s Academy that beat all odds to bring Black Pirates’ winning run to an end in a 5-24 defeat. That loss could prove key ahead of the anticipated battles in Mbarara as Pirates aim to not suffer more damage while their opponents seek to lift themselves and avert a one-sided race.
