UBA makes commitment to giving banking a new face

United Bank for Africa–Uganda yesterday reiterated its support for the people of Uganda and its commitment to being a catalyst of growth and development in the country. This was during a press meeting organised by the bank at Serena Hotel to discuss its strategic plans for the second half of 2018.

United Bank for Africa(UBA) which has a presence in 20 African countries has been at the forefront of development in Africa by funding massive projects in Infrastructure, healthcare, education, oil and gas and agriculture. In the last 5 years, UBA has supported infrastructure and development projects in East and Southern Africa worth over 500 million USD.

“As a group, we are committed to Uganda and shall harness a combination of its human resources, our experience and capacity to make a positive contribution to its economy,” said Emeke E. Iweriebor, the Executive Director /CEO East and Southern Africa.

The bank has established leadership in digital driven banking solutions in Uganda and Africa. UBA was the first bank in Uganda to introduce the chat banking assistant – Leo, which was launched in June 2018. Leo can assist customers with various banking transactions such as account opening, funds transfers and airtime purchase.

LEO was recently recognised by Mark Zuckerberg as ‘doing incredible things’ at Facebook’s Developer Conference F8 that took place in May 2018 at San Jose, California, in the US.

In addition, UBA is keen to partner and support the government in its development agenda. The bank is currently implementing an e-voucher payment system project with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries to facilitate funding of over 4,500 customers. UBA was the first bank to provide a tax payment solution to the Ugandan Revenue Authority to enable customers pay taxes using their debit cards on Point of sale machines and online.

The bank also offers the only fuel management solution for Government ministries, departments and agencies.

With the goal of widening our service offering and responding to the ever changing customers’ needs, UBA will soon launch an advanced mobile banking solution that will be available on a mobile application and a USSD code, as well as agency banking. In addition, following the recent approval by Bank of Uganda, UBA Uganda plans to launch Agent banking in Uganda.

“Our customers are the most important part of our business and we endeavour to keep them at the center of all that we do, which is why we continue to invent and introduce products and services that respond to their needs.  Some of these products include Leo – the chat banking assistant, mobile banking and agent banking,” commented Johnson Agoreyo, the managing director and CEO of UBA Uganda.

With a strategic goal to become a key player in the Uganda banking industry, UBA is leveraging its group strength to finance large ticket transactions in major sectors,introduction of industry changing technological innovations and increasing convenience for customers through excellent service.
