Voting is underway in the Arua Municipality MP race. Information on our desk reveals that Independent candidate Kasiano Wadri, has been transferred to Gulu. He was reportedly transferred together with other legislators; Gerald Karuhanga, Francis Zaake, Paul Mwiru and  and former MP Michael Mabikke.

NRM’s Nusura Tiperu by time of this writing had already cast her vote. She urged voters to turn up in large numbers and make their voice count.

“My support base is mainly women, and women are not violent,” she stated after voting.

When asked about the anticlimax of the campaign period, Tiperu took a swipe at the factions within Opposition party FDC, saying the “two camps were fighting”.

“I saw my youths being stoned. Four of them admitted.”

The Arua by-election seeks to replace slain legislator, Ibrahim Abiriga, who was gunned down in June. The main contenders in the race include independent candidate, Kasiano Wadri, FDC’s Bruce Musemaand NRM’s Nusura Tiperu.

Arua municipality has 46,838 voters and 65 polling stations.
