The new wave of entertainment personalities joining politics is for real. While many have been focusing on trending artistes, Afrigo Band’s Rachael Magoola of ‘Obangaina’ hit song has proved that indeed old is gold.

On Wednesday, November 21, Magoola was announced winner of the NRM Party primaries and thus will be the party flag bearer in the upcoming Woman Member of Parliament in the newly created Bugweri district.

Magoola gathered 13,172 votes followed by Amina Mutesi with 6,691 votes, Birabwa Rose with 5,667 and Musibika Monica with 1, 409 votes. However, the road to parliament is far from over as she will face JEEMA party’s candidate, Sarah Babirye, People Power’s Mercy Walukamba and FDC’s Lillian in the final showdown.

This is not Magoola’s first try in politics.  In 2016 she contested for Woman Member of Parliament of Iganga district but  lost. But after Bugweri being cut off from Iganga, Magoola has decided to give it another try. Will the wave sweep her to leadership?
