Besigye cracks a joke as detained activist Stella Nyanzi looks on in admiration

The anticipated start of the trial of, Makerere University researcher, Dr Stella Nyanzi that was slated for today, Monday, December 10 has flopped after President Museveni – a principal witness in the case and the trial magistrate failed to turn up.

Buganda Road presiding magistrate, Robert Mukanza, further adjourned the case to December 19 saying the trial magistrate was unable to make it to court.

Amongst Ugandans that had come to witness the court proceedings was opposition kingpin, Dr Kiiza Besigye who stated that he is standing with Nyanzi because she is an inspiration to the struggle of freedom of expression and speech.

Besigye told the media that Museveni who claims to have been offended by Nyanzi’s Facebook post cannot come to court because he knows the blatant Nyanzi is innocent and very intelligent.

“Nyanzi has always been intimated by trying her in court but she has stood her ground. It’s a shame that innocent people and hardworking mothers like Nyanzi are the ones in jail yet thieves that have robbed the country are
freely living their lives,” Besigye added.

Nyanzi was charged with cyber harassment and offensive communication against the President and his late mother, Esteri
Kokundeka.
