Speaker Rebecca Kadaga yesterday on Wednesday revealed to Parliament a fresh grand-scale financial transparency in the country. Kadaga told Parliament that Shs24 billion that was allocated to the Isimba Hydro power project to construct a bridge and a road that connects the district of Kayunga to Kamuli had be swindled.

“I know the eaters,” said Kadaga amidst surprised chants froM honourable Members of Parliament.

Kadaga further disclosed how she informed President Museveni about the matter in March this year but to her surprise nothing has been done to bring the ‘eaters’ to book.

“I informed the President but I haven’t seen any action and I don’t know why. But I am ready to follow up this matter until the end,” Kadaga said.

Monica Azuba Ntege, the Minister for Works and Transport was tasked to come to the floor of Parliament and issue a statement. She seemed aware of the scandal but said it is the energy ministry that is in great position to explain the whereabouts of the funds.

MPs proposed that the speaker creates a select committee to follow up the matter.

Earlier this year, Museveni commissioned the Shs2 trillion Isimba Hydro Power project that was constructed by China International Water and Electric Corporation using borrowed funds from Exim Bank.
