The ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM), last week announced their road map for the 2021 general election, indicating their intention to once again front President Y.K. Museveni as their party flagbearer.  However, NRM rebel Member of Parliament, Dr. Sam Lyomoki has accused his party Secretariat of not providing details of presidential candidature primaries. According to the Workers’ MP, his party has for long been blocking anyone who shows interest to stand against Museveni, and he has vowed to put up a stiff challenge this time round.

“I am committed and very ready. I will be standing for president of Uganda as NRM flag-bearer,” Lyomoki said.

Lyomoki went ahead to threaten that once his move is doomed, he is set to form a parallel group called the Progressive NRM and youthful Kyadondo East MP Hon Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine will be his deputy flag-bearer.

In response to Lyomoki, Government Chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa has said NRM as a party has clear rules that that one must follow before standing. She said; “Someone cannot come from nowhere and stand. NRM is not an individual party, it has a constitution.”
