Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has spoken out on the Uganda Airlines ownership controversy that came to light in Parliament this week, saying if he was president he would have sacked a few people.

Speaking during the supplementary  expenditure  Plenary meeting at Parliament in regards to the Uganda Airline ownership saga , Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah asked the house to admit that there have been gross errors.

“From a speaker’s chair, you wonder if there is a government and there are people  thinking ahead. We wouldn’t be in this situation. It is unfortunate that am not the president, I would have sacked a few people.” Oulanyah said

Similarly, Kasilo County MP Hon. Elijah Okupa asked for disciplinary proceedings against Works Minister Hon. Monica Azuba for her errors in the registration process and issues surrounding the shareholding of Uganda Airlines.

However, the  Minister for Works and Transport conceded that the documents that she presented to the House yesterday regarding ownership of Uganda Airlines were ‘faulty’ (the documents  she presented indicated herself and Finance Minister Matia Kasaija as the owners of Uganda Airlines). She apologized and withdrew the documents.

While presenting  a report on the Uganda Airlines documents laid on table by Minister Azuba, the chairperson of the Budget committee Hon. Amos Lugoloobi tabled a new resolution for the company, and a return of the allotment of shares compatible with the requirements of Parliament.

The directors, ministers Azuba and Kasaija were given up to April 30, 2019 to appoint a substantive and competent board for Uganda Airlines.

Minister Azuba also confirmed on oath that the aircrafts being purchased by the company are brand new and will be delivered in early April.
