Hon. Raphael Magyezi, the Igara West Member of Parliament and the man who fronted the controversial Age Limit Bill on the floor of the August House in 2017, has revealed that he is facing some quite tough times –as ever since he became the face of the Age Limit Bill he lost the trust of a section of his constituents. The legislator says this section of constituents who lost trust in him as they have continuously accused him of moving the motion without consulting them.

Magyezi adds that whenever he moves around the parishes of his constituency, people ‘throw’ questions at him saying; “Are you still strong like the other time when you moved the motion.”

“It’s been quite challenging, some people are really angry at me,” magyezi said

The Igara East legislator, however, says that although he made some mistakes during the process of the Age Limit Bill discussion in parliament, especially in not reaching out to his people for their opinions, everything he did to table the bill was valid and within the law.

He argues that his concern was only to enable the removal of presidential lower and upper age limit caps, and clauses such as extending the MPs’ term of office from five to seven years were included by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) colleagues –they shouldn’t be blamed on him if anyone finds them unpalatable/without merit.

Magyezi also, in expression of a defiant spirit, says that he is ready for whatever kind of judgment is passed by the Supreme Court tomorrow, Thursday April 18th. Tomorrow the Supreme Court is set to deliver the final verdict on the Constitution Amendment Act following a 2017 appeal challenging the removal of the presidential age limit, led by Counsel Male Mabbirizi.
