Hundreds turn up for the Uganda International Fashion Week model casting

Ahead of the Uganda International Fashion Week slated to run from August 2 to 4 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, models, designers and stylists gathered at Arapapa, Village Mall Bugolobi over the weekend for the model casting.

The purpose of the audition was to choose the models going to showcase in the different designer clothes and also determine if the models have the right look and feel for the direction of the fashion week.

The judges of the casting who interacted with the models were celebrated international model Vanquisha Eyapu, city stylist and designer Solomon Tazibone, Julie Epenu and Fashion designer Paula Butagira.

The judges

Over 90 models turned up for the auditions and were asked to catwalk so the judges could choose the models that are set to rock the runway.

At the end of the day, a line-up of models was selected and they will be tasked to attend the master class, rehearsals at a fee of Shs 10,000 ahead of the D-day.

This is going to be the sixth edition of the Uganda International Fashion Week since Santa Anzo founded it in 2003.

Among the designers expected to showcase are Fatumah Asha, Stella Atai, Paula Butagira and many surprise international acts. The audition also attracted models from sister countries Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi.

UIFW is being held in conjuction with the South African Department of Arts and Culture, Uganda Tourism Board and Plascon.
