“We have managed to maintain key economic principles, like charging right. A jerrycan of water costs only Shs25. We have also leveraged on ICT and using new technologies appropriately. We are now using systems like e-Payments to get things done much easily,” Said Kaggwa.

NWSC expects to construct over 2060 km of new water main extensions by 2020.

NWSC is currently constructing what is going to be the largest sewage treatment plant in East and Central Africa at Bugolobi, and a sewage pumping station in Kinawataka. All these projects are aimed at providing clean water and streamline sewerage services for Ugandans.

NWSC MD Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha also addressed the media, where he unveiled plans of the corporation setting up its own Insurance and Investment Company with the purpose of saving and borrowing that money to expand their services.

“We decided to form our own captive insurance so that we put all our money in our own insurance company. The board has already approved it the purpose is if that money is not used; we can borrow it and use it to expand services. We’re forming our own investment company to pitch for jobs and tap into jobs of Shs10bn and so on. That’s how we’re dealing with BUBU. We shouldn’t be spending our money on external companies,” said Mugisha.

NWSC is a public corporation wholly owned by the Government of Uganda. The Corporation’s mandate is to provide water and sewerage services in urban areas on commercial and financially viable basis.
