The female wing of Masindi Prison was on Tuesday caught off guard as gunmen made a raid on the premises in an attempt to force release of a convict who was sentenced to 50 years over robbery and murder.

Frank Baine, the Uganda Prison Service Spokesperson confirmed the raiding saying; “its true thugs tried to access the female wing, but fortunately we foiled their mission, they did not do what they intended to do.”

Sources say that the gunmen used the weak-link entrance of the prison that has unarmed female prison wardens to access the facility but more security immediately swung in action.

Baine said the prison authorities are currently investigating the motive of the raid and clues have already been attained.

“We don’t want to pre-empt investigations, but our pointers are towards a certain woman sentenced to 50 years for murder and robbery,” Baine said as he also revealed that the thugs who came on mission lacked information because the person they wanted to break out had already been transferred to Luzira Maximum Prison.

According to our sources, the convict, a one Alexia Kobusingye, a resident of Mabaale in Kagadi district was found guilty by Masindi High Court for hiring Christopher Soleka and Ismail Aloho to gun down David Kamusiime, a resident of Kibiingo, Kikuube district in 2016.

Aloho and Soleka were sentenced to 30 years for executing the murder.
