Speaking at a media briefing, Democratic Party President Norbert Mao said the Democratic Party bloc is open to working with other opposition groups to build a broad coalition for the 2021 elections.

Mao said before the opposition thinks of ousting President Museveni in the coming election, they need to first make a transition amongst its leaders.

“We need a transition as opposition,” said Mao as he also revealed that building consensus with leading opposition party Forum for Democratic Change will not be easy.

“FDC insists they cannot give way to any other candidate. That hard-lined position is an obstacle to unity,” he said.

Mao also weighed in on the new developments in the People Power movement camp saying DP will not summon any of its members named on the ‘People Power cabinet’ because they have not yet denounced themselves from DP.

He claimed that the gestures Bobi Wine portrayed while naming his team are a good indicator to their mission of fielding an independent candidate against Museveni in the 2021 general elections.
