Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi and 36 others today appeared before the Gulu Magistrates court for the hearing of their treason case.

Bobi Wine and colleagues are alleged to have stoned and smashed the windscreen of a presidential vehicle on the last day of the Arua Municipality By-election campaigns a year ago.

To the surprise of many who were present in the court room, five new charges were ‘slapped’ to accused persons. These included; Incitement to violence, disobedience of lawful orders, going armed in certain places, failure to prevent obstruction of traffic flow and failure to give right of way.

“On realising that the previous charges of treason and annoying President Museveni will not hold water, the state has introduced another five charges against all the accused persons,” People Power Movement Spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi said.

It should be remembered that the Arua Municipality By-election campaigns turned violent a year ago when People Power supporters classed with NRM supporters leading to one death, several others went with injuries and tens arrested by security operatives.

If convicted of such charges, the group may face a life sentence.
