With the current wave of kidnaps and murders happening across the country, chairman of the National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission, Tanga Odoi has said government must carry the burden of curbing down the murders.

“The government should be held accountable for these murders,” Tanga Odoi said.

Tanda Odoi stated that murder in all cases is bad because it depletes manpower of the nation. However, he revealed that NRM as party is committed to doing its best to restore sanity.

“We should go back to what we ought to be. The population must restore sanity. The whole country must address insecurity,” he said.

Yesterday three more suspects were arrested in connection with the recent kidnap and murder of Nagirinya Maria and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa. This brought the total number of suspects in police custody for this double murder to six.

While appearing before parliament last week, Internal Affairs Minister, Gen Jeje Odongo blamed the rising spate of murders and insecurity on politicians. Odongo said politicians are using the situation to politically discredit the ruling NRM party. The Minister also blamed drug abuse which he said is the practice of ex-convicts returning to society after serving their sentences only to continue with criminality.
