Today is Day Four of the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference that is already taking place in Uganda. After getting busy with different activities on the agenda since Sunday, the delegates took a day off today to tour Uganda and see the beauty that truly is the Pearl of Africa.

The delegates kicked off their tour by visiting Namugongo Martyrs Shrine in Kampala, the site which holds historical significance in Uganda to Catholics and Protestants in particular. Namugongo is the site where over 45 Christians were killed on orders of Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda between January 31, 1885 and January 27, 1887.

Other places visited by the delegates include Kabaka’s Palace in Mengo, where they were received by Buganda Premier Charles Peter Mayiga. The delegates were entertained by the traditional ‘Maganda’ dance performed by a cultural dance group.

Other places the delegates are going to visit include the Equator spot in Nkozi along Masaka road so they get a chance to be in the North and Southern Hemisphere at the same time.

The delegates will also visit the source of the longest river in the World, the Nile river in Jinja and do rock climbing at Kagulu hill in Kamuli among other activites.

This excursion is aimed at selling Uganda’s beauty to these delegates in hopes that when they go back to their countries, they will share their experience and end up encouraging others to visit Uganda and boost our tourism sector.
