The three Felix Kaweesi murder suspects who were re-arrested a fortnight ago; Jibril Kalyango, Yusuf Mugerwa and Yusuf Nyanzi have today afternoon been granted a Police bond by the Special Investigations Department (SID).

According to the bond forms, the police have charged the suspects with belonging to a terrorist organization and so have been directed to report to SID on October 11, 2019 or else their bond will be cancelled.

Their release follows an order from Justice Henrietta Wolayo of Civil Division of the High court last week where he ordered government to immediately bring them in court.

Justice Wolayo specifically directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martins Okoth Ochola, the Deputy Director of SID Elly Womanya and the Attorney General William Byaruhanga. He said the suspects had been detained for more than the mandatory 48 hours.

His directive was influenced by an application from the suspect’s lawyers led by Anthony Wameli which was filed two weeks ago. In the application, the lawyers argued that shortly after their release on bail by Justice Lydia Mugambe of the International Crimes Division, three suspects were illegally re-arrested by armed state operatives.
