I am not a legend, I am a veteran – Maddox Ssematimba clarifies

Celebrated reggae star Maddox Ssematimba has been in the news recently ever since he said that Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone is not a music legend in Uganda. A lot of people have come out to strongly disagree with Madoxx and some said that he is being disrespectful to Chameleone.

While appearing on NBS TV’s After 5 show this evening, the Nakatudde singer clarified on what the word legend means, and how it has been misused to refer to musicians that have been exceptionally successful over time in Uganda.

Maddox said that he does not call himself a legend and he doesn’t like to be called one.

“I don’t call myself a legend, because a legend is related to a myth. I prefer being called a veteran because of my longevity in the music industry in Uganda,” Maddox explained.

Maddox further said that the correct term Ugandans should be using is ‘Veteran’ when they want to refer to people that have long been successful in different disciplines.

To be quite fair, the Veteran title fits Maddox well. He has released timeless hits over the years singing about love, music, life of the party, friendship among others. It is hard to talk about reggae music in Uganda and the name Madoxx Ssematimba doesn’t pop up.
