There are three things synonymous of the majority of Ugandans; they drink like a frog, they love their national football team, and they never want to leave office peacefully.

Police boss in charge of engineering and logistics Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Godfrey Bangirana has had to be forced to leave office by Justice Henrietta Wolayo of the High Court for lacking a valid contract.

Bangirana was dragged to court by a ‘concerned citizen’ named Isaac Maddo for refusing to handover office months after his contract expired.

According to Maddo, Bangirana’s two-year contract expired on July 16 and continued to occupy office and getting salary with all the benefits that accompany it, something he termed as illegal and wasting taxpayers’ money.

In August, court summoned Bangirana to defend himself against Maddo’s allegations or else be ordered to vacate his office, something that he failed to do.

“On July 16, 2019, the contract of the second defendant (Bangirana) expired and was directed by the Inspector General of Police to hand over and vacate office as his continued stay would raise several queries from the public service,” reads the court document.

Although Bangirana stayed in office past the time specified in his contract on orders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Permanent Secretary Benon Mutambi, Court has now issued its orders, and they will stand until the case against him is resolved.

Through his lawyers of Kirya and Company Advocates, Maddo also wants all the money Bangirana has been paid by government while holding office past his term refunded.
