Uganda Human Rights boss Med Kaggwa dead after getting involved in an accident

Sad news reaching our desk indicate that chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, Med Kaggwa is dead. According to reports, Kaggwa collapsed in his car after getting involved in an accident on his way to work at Mawanda Road this morning.

He was rushed to Case Hospital in critical condition and immediately taken to Intensive Care Unit. A few minutes later, doctors confirmed he had breathed his last.

Kaggwa was a qualified lawyer with nearly 30 years’ experience and also the Chairperson of Uganda Human Rights Commission. He held a Master of Laws degree from National University of Ireland, a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University.

He has also been a Member of Parliament in both the national and sub-regional Parliaments, a Member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the current 1995 Constitution of Uganda and a Commissioner of the Uganda Constitutional Commission.

Additionally, he has been Head of Department of Law at the Law Development Centre and held a Political Office as Minister in Charge of Political Affairs in the Office of the President.
