Recently, Uganda Police Exodus Cooperative Saving and Credit Society Ltd ( SACCO) has been facing a series of controversies with junior officers continuously expressing dissatisfaction with the newly appointed Deputy IGP Mzeeyi Sabiiti led committee.

Going by the reports, the junior officers claimed that their money has always been swindled by top Police boss who are not even members of the SACCO.

Exodus Sacco is worth more than Shs20 billion and has over 30000 members of which the majority are of lower ranks from Police Constable to Inspector of Police.

It is alleged that the top Police commanders from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police – ACP to IGP have their own SACCO but they go ahead to borrow funds from the Exodus SACCO.

The new twist in the SACCO woes have today been revealed by James Waluswaka (NRM, Bunyole West County MP) on the flow of Parliament.

Waluswaka said how he has learnt of mismanagement of funds and the bureaucracy at the SACCO from his claimed reliable sources. He added that the books of accounts for the SACCO are missing.

Minister for Microfinance Haruna Kyeyune failed to either refute or accept the allegation but told Parliament how it is now necessary for the registrar of cooperatives to intervene and audit the Police SACCO.

“The Inspector General of Police cannot run the SACCO. It is the shareholders who do,” Kyeyune said.

A fortnight ago, Sabiiiti postponed the meeting his new committee had to hold with the member officers as he wanted to find out why the junior officers were against the new committee from taking over the Sacco management.
