The People Power countrywide consultations still remain unresolved as they are yet to come to a common ground with Police who regardless of Bobi Wine’s efforts to meet their requirements still declare him unfit for consultations.

According to Bobi Wine, People Power was scheduled to start consultations today, Monday, February 24, 2020 after the Police illegally blocked their first phase of consultations in seven districts at the beginning of this year.

Bobi Wine says that they paid for the venue and did everything as required by the law but Police did not respond. Therefore, they went ahead to address a press conference pledging to continue with the preparations.

Police however wrote to them indicating that they were not clearing the consultations. The Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga as well addressed the issue while addressing journalists saying that People Power had not fulfilled Police requirements to carry on with consultations.

He mentioned issues such as not communicating the venue and lack of formal communication about the procedure as some of the issues as to why the consultations were not fit to be cleared. He went on to advise Bobi Wine not to engage in any form of consultation as it would be breaking the law.

People power has since written to the Electoral Commission formally sharing with them their proposals and requested them to convene a meeting to harmonize the positions. “The only way the commission can show commitment to overseeing a credible election in 2021 is for them to prevail over all government agencies to ensure a level playing field,” People Power’s Bobi Wine wrote.

Some People Power die-hards however have gone on to say that Police is doing nothing but promote the NRM’s political motives. Eddie Mutwe, one of Bobi Wine’s right-hand men came out on social media to say that Police cannot simply speak the truth and that regardless of whatever may happen, they will be proceeding to Pope Paul Hotel in Ndeeba for the consultations.
