This morning, Police in Kireka, have impounded a van belonging to the Ministry of Health for violating social distancing directives put in place by the Ministry itself and the government to curb the spreading of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ever since COVID-19 broke out, the Ministry of Health has repeatedly encouraged the general public among other preventive measures, to practice social distancing, a practice where you maintain a distance of at lest four meters from someone else, such that you do not transmit or get infected by the virus.

This is the reason why public transport, social events, and some markets were suspended by President Museveni last month so that people do not come in close contact with each other to contain the virus.

Although most people were stopped from leaving their homes, medical personnel have the green light to still go to work since they provide an essential service, but most of them do not have private means of transport so they resort to using vans provided by the Health Ministry to go to their duty stations.

Currently, the Health Ministry does not have enough vans to transport few people that would sit four meters apart, that is why they get parked in numbers of up to 25 in one van. It is a risky business.
