Security operation in Kampala has over 50 arrested for not wearing facemasks

Earlier this week, President Museveni complained about Ugandans ditching coronavirus preventive measures and only minding their usual business. He warned that government will not be held responsible if any individuals contracts the virus and dies.

Museveni said it should not be Police to remind Ugandans to wear facemasks but rather be a personal responsibility to everyone. However, this morning Police and LDU officers have conducted an operation in downtown Kampala arresting people with no facemasks and those with them but are hanging below their chins. By press time more than 50 people had been put into Police custody.

Again this week, Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng cautioned the complacency being portrayed by the majority of Ugandans in the fight against COVID-19. Aceng said most Ugandans who have been allowed to return to work are no longer following the Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs).

Aceng said government will need to direct another lockdown since the country will have moved to stage 4 in the fight against the deadly virus.
